The concentration of Arsenic, a component of agricultural pesticides, in rice has now been studied and has been shown to be high. See the study reported here and a popular article on the same here. This is alarming and shows us the banes of ill-informed use of technological advancements (here, pesticides). A policy change banning pesticides (similar to DDT) seems to be the only way to curb the use of pesticides. However, the question then is, how do we tackle pesticides? Is it time to dig up history to learn how our ancestors dealt with this issue?
